Join us for an intersting and interactive discussion on the current research underway on Medical Cannabis use.

Leading up to and following the legalization of recreational cannabis there has been a lot of hype and misinformation on the subject of cannabis use.  Fortunately, right here at the University of Saskatchewan an interdisciplinary research team helps shed some light.  The Cannabinoid Research Initiative of Saskatchewan (CRIS) https://research-groups.usask.ca/cris/ is an interdisciplinary research team that aims to obtain scientific evidence about the application of cannabinoids and cannabis derivatives to humans and animals for health, disease, and disorders.

The research team’s scope of activities and research opportunities include analytical evaluations, human clinical studies, biomedical studies, veterinary sciences, knowledge translation, and studies of cannabinoids & society including legal, ethical, public health and health econometrics aspects.

The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and HOT 4.16 are pleased to present an informal discussion and networking with:

Dr Robert Laprairie, Assistant Professor & CIHR GlaxoSmithKline Chair in Drug Discovery & Development, College of Pharmacy & Nutrition, U of S, will discuss cannabis basics as well as outline some of the research initiatives from the CRIS team.

Dr Michael Szafron, Associate Professor, School of Public Health, U of S, will discuss some of the background and considerations from a Public Health perspective.

Dr Jane Alcorn, Professor, College of Pharmacy & Nutrition, will round out the discussion describing the science behind knowing what to use , how much and for whom.

CRIS is an interdisciplinary research team exploring the application of cannabinoids and cannabis derivatives to humans and animals, for health, disease, and disorders. The team is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada at the University of Saskatchewan.
